Private Music Tuition – Sonic Boom
Drysdale Primary School partners with Sonic Boom who offer instrumental lessons and rock band experiences for students from Grade 2 onwards. The program aims to engage children in music through a holistic approach, fostering creative thinking and performance skills. Sonic Boom includes both individual lessons and opportunities to join bands that perform at school events.
The program is run by experienced Music Tutors who are also working musicians, providing mentorship and a positive learning environment.
At Drysdale Primary School, we offer private instrumental lessons for students keen to explore and develop their musical talents. Each lesson lasts about 25 minutes. Your child’s music teacher will collect them from their classroom at a set time each week, with times staggered to minimise disruption to regular class activities. Typically, lessons occur on the same day each week.
Students have access to a range of instruments during their lessons, including:
- Guitar
- Ukulele
- Bass Guitar
- Drums
- Piano/Keyboards
- Vocals
Violin lessons are also available on limited days, taught by our specialist teacher.
Students are encouraged to try different instruments but are guided to eventually focus on one or two to develop their skills deeply.
Our program focuses on engaging children with music in a fun and immersive way — not heavy on theory, but rich in hands-on learning. If a student shows interest in music theory, we can tailor lessons to include that as well. The goal is to help students naturally progress and develop confidence in their playing.
Once students feel confident on their instrument, they have the exciting opportunity to join our Rock Band, which rehearses for 50 minutes during lunch on a designated weekday (day may vary occasionally due to scheduling). The band performs at the school assembly Rock Concert at the end of each term and also at The Potato Fair at the end of Term 1.
Our music teacher often plays alongside the students, helping guide and inspire them. All equipment is provided at school, but we recommend students have access to their own instrument at home for practice.
Rock Band rehearsals are loud — it’s part of the fun! Please provide hearing protection (ear plugs) if your child has sensitive ears.
