Principal’s Update

Michael Ymer Maths Curriculum Day

On Friday, the staff had an extremely productive day working with Michael Ymer on engaging students in Maths and the new Victorian Curriculum 2.0. We all got to hear Michael talk about the changes to the curriculum and play a variety of games and complete tasks that are designed to engage, challenge, support and extend students in Maths. Teachers will be putting into practice these strategies and tips over the remainder of the year and into 2025 and beyond.

Whole School Athletics Day

What a sensational day we had at our annual Athletics Day! Despite an increasingly chilly wind we saw sensational performances from our students, terrific examples of sportsmanship and wonderful support from so many parents and families.

A huge thank you to Carissa, Jen, Fiona, Jonathon, Emma, Morgan, Paul and Caroline who volunteered their time to help either set up or run the events on the day. We could not have done it without your assistance.

The results have now all been tallied and the winning House is set to receive the shield at assembly this Friday. We all also be awarding ribbons to the place getters of each event from the Middles and Seniors.

From these results we have selected a DPS Athletics team that will head off to Goldsworthy Reserve in Corio on Monday to compete against Ocean Grove, Our Lady Star of the Sea and Leopold Primary School in the Connewarre District Championships.

Book Week 19th-23rd August 2024

This year we will be celebrating reading with some special events through Book Week. Shortly some of the picture story books and junior fiction and non-fiction titles will be on display in the school library for students and classes to visit, read and discuss the nominations. Staff are also beginning to plan their door displays, with the theme of Reading is Magic in mind to inspire us all.

On Tuesday 20th August from 2:45pm, we invite parents, carers and family members in to our classes for an afternoon of reading and sharing favourite books.

Then on Friday 23rd August, we will celebrate the end of a magical Book Week with our dress up day and parade in the hall from 9:15am. We love seeing the door displays around the school and all our students, staff and volunteers getting into the spirit of the week by donning a costume and enjoying the day with each other.

Sustainability News

We are very excited to announce that we now have a registered account with the Container Deposit Scheme.  When recycling your glass or plastic bottles and cans, we would love our families to now donate their refunds to help Drysdale Primary School with our future sustainability needs and initiatives.  To donate download the CDS Vic – West  App and then every time you recycle just click on Charities and then search Drysdale Primary School.  Please encourage all your family and friends to also donate and recycle with our DPS account. These funds will support the restoration of our veggie garden and help our students develop a greater awareness of recycling, reducing and reusing.

Thanks for your support with all things environmental and sustainable.
