Drysdale Primary School

Welcome Back

I hope everyone had a relaxing and fun school holidays with plenty of rest and quality time with family and friends.

We have made a smooth start to Term 2, with students settling back in well and getting straight back into our core business of learning and having fun at school.

We have a busy term ahead with a range of exciting learning experiences planned. Term 2 is an eleven-week term that will conclude on Friday 28th June.

I remind you that there are two public holidays across the term as well as two student-free Curriculum Days.

I also wish to remind you that the calendar on Sentral is the best place to stay on top of important dates at Drysdale Primary School.

ANZAC Day Public Holiday – Thursday 25th April
Curriculum Day – Monday 6th May (Mathematics focus with Michael Ymer)
Student Free Day – Friday 31st May (TBC) Assessment and Reporting
King’s Birthday Public Holiday – Monday 10th June

School Photos Tomorrow Wednesday 24th April 2024

Annual school photos including sibling photos will be taken by Arthur Reed Photos tomorrow Wednesday 24th April 2024.

There is no need to return any forms or money to school.

Unique image codes will be issued to all students on photo day so families can register online to view images when they become available in the webshop.

Registration is simple, just follow the 3 simple steps on your child’s personalised flyer once you receive it and remember to add the codes for all your children attending this school.

Even if you registered last year, it’s important that you do again this year using your child’s 2024 image code to link their images for the current year with your contact details.

When images are ready to view and in the webshop, all parents who have registered will be notified by SMS and email.

Once registered, please wait for notification that 2024 images are online to view before making your purchase.

Dogs On School Grounds

It is great to see and pat the friendly dogs that are dropping off and picking up students before and after school.

Please be aware that we have some students that are nervous around dogs, so we ask that they be kept away from entry ways into the building to allow students to enter and leave.

We also continue to welcome our Story Dogs in each week who are having a lovely time hearing junior students reading. They visit on Monday’s and Thursday’s.

Over the next year, we will be introducing a school therapy dog to the staff and students at Drysdale PS. In the coming months he will begin to visit to learn and integrate into the school environment and undergoes training. We look forward to having Harry on staff and can’t wait for you to meet him.

Numeracy @ Home

You can find information and advice here that will:

  • help your child to learn mathematics and numeracy at home
  • explain the difference between numeracy and mathematics
  • identify and address some common myths about mathematics

Families will find helpful suggestions on activities that have a numeracy focus that they can participate in together, along with a number of resources that they can access to develop numeracy understandings.

Volunteers Induction Training

Next week Kate Wojcik will be holding 2 short training sessions for any parents or carers that would like to volunteer and help our school in 2024. It will take about 20 minutes for the induction and to hear more about ways you can be involved in our school.

If you have completed this training in previous years, you will just need to meet with Kate for an OHS induction, which takes about 10 minutes, and you will be good to go again for this year. We will check that we have up to date WWCC records for anyone wishing to come in and help in classes or other areas of the school.

Training sessions will be at 3pm on Wednesday May 1 – just before home time – and Thursday May 2 at 9.10am – just after drop off – in the school library.

If you can’t make it to either of these sessions we can hold more in the coming weeks, so please reach out to Kate, via the office, for another time to be scheduled.
