Swimming Program

The swimming program that ran last week for the Juniors, Middles and Seniors was a resounding success. It was so great to be able to use our local Drysdale pool as it meant there was so much less interruption to the rest of our day. We were also able to extend our lessons from 30 to 45 minutes. This meant our kids were spending less time in a bus and more time either in the pool or back in the classroom.

We also felt proud of the fact that we were the first school to run a swimming program at the new pool!

The feedback from the pool was very positive. They really enjoyed teaching our students and loved the fact that so many had a great time. There were also many examples of children making huge progress in their swimming ability.

A big thank you to parents/carers for making sure their children were all organised and ready, it certainly adds a layer of complexity to out early morning routines. It was also wonderful to see so many parents pop in to watch a lesson or two, another advantage of swimming locally. Thank also to the staff for assisting the student to get to and from the pool on time.

Finally, a big thank you to Shane Kennedy for organising the program and making sure it went as smoothly as possible.

2024 Privacy Policy & Collection Notice

Our school collects, uses, discloses and stores student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ Privacy Policy.

Please take time to read our school’s collection notice, which can be found on our website Drysdale Primary School Enrolments – Privacy Collection Notice.

Our Photographing, Filming and Recording Students Policy, DPS Photographing, Filming and Recording Students Policy (2024), describes how we collect and use photographs, video and recordings of students. The policy also explains when parent consent is required and how it can be provided and withdrawn.

We ask parents to also review the guidance we provide on how we use Microsoft 365/Google Workspace for Education safely at the school and what parents can do to further protect their child’s information. If after reviewing the guidance, you have any questions or concerns regarding your child using Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace for Education, please contact the school.

For more information about privacy, refer to: Schools’ Privacy Policy — information for parents.

Mobile Phones

A reminder that the Department of Education has in place a mobile phone ban that requires students who bring mobiles phones to school to have them switched off and securely put away during school hours at the school office, phones must be handed in as students arrive at school.

The ban applies equally to all government schools right across the state.

This helps ensure that school is a learning environment free from unnecessary distractions and disruptions.
By ensuring mobile phones are kept away, students can interact with each other face-to-face, without the distractions and social pressures that mobile phones can cause.
I ask for the support of all our families, staff, and students in continuing to support the implementation of this policy in our school.

Further information
Exceptions: For a small number of students with particular health needs, an exception to the policy may be granted. Please contact Glen Lauder if you would like to discuss this.
Emergencies: In the event of an emergency or if you need to immediately contact your child, I ask that families contact the school office who will pass on a message as required.
School mobile phone policy: A copy of our school’s local mobile phone policy, which implements the government’s mobile policy in line with our local context, is available here:

Parent support: The Mobile phones in schools webpage provides links to resources for families to help them balance their children’s time using mobile phones.
If you have further questions, please contact the administration office.

Tennis Success

Congratulations to Streicher, Maeve and Eliza who all represented Drysdale PS at the Connewarre District Tennis Championships in Ocean Grove last week. The feedback we received from the organisers was that all the players represented their schools so positively and the sportsmanship that was on display was fantastic.

Streicher and Eliza both ended up as champions after winning their respective finals. They will now be heading off to the Bellarine Division Tournament at Geelong College in early Term 2 where they will be competing against all the other district winners. We wish them both the best of luck.
